I read every blog post I could and watched all the YouTube videos I could find. And then I placed my order.
And I waited. And waited.
It took about two weeks to arrive. Which was disappointing, BUT I think a one-off because I ordered right in the middle of their annual anniversary sale (aka their busiest time of the year). So I'll give them a pass on the delay.
The planner arrived today and I wanted to share my initial reactions from my unboxing.

When you purchase the planner you have to buy a cover separately. They arrived in a box-the planner was securely shrink wrapped and the cover was loose in the box.

I immediately put the cover on my planner.
Love this color combo-makes me happy just looking at it.

The coil is rather large but it's very flexible and I don't feel like it will get in my way at all. The planner overall is MUCH smaller and more portable than anything I've ever used. I really happy with the "petite" ness of this planner. It feels perfect in my hand!

Oh, you guys, the paper. It is soooooooo nice. It has a slight texture feel to it. It is really the nicest paper I have ever seen in a planner. It's such a huge difference from other planners. I won't show you every layout in the planner but I do want to show you a few that I thought sets it apart from other planners.

The beginning of each month has a full page quote. Love this.

Monthly spread (I've already started adding a few stickers here and there...)

Weekly spread (similar layout to Erin Condren Morning, Afternoon, Evening layout, just smaller)

Daily pages. Oh, can we talk about how much I love these daily pages. Full color daily pages. With everything I've wanted in a daily page for as long as I can remember, DREAM. COME. TRUE. And, yes, each planner comes with monthly, weekly, AND daily pages. LOVE. :)

The back of the planner has address pages (so pretty), notes pages, and a year in review.

I am so beyond happy with this planner. It really has exceeded my expectations on first impression. I will give a full review after I have been in it a month or so. But for now, I'm in planner bliss.
Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or want to see more photos. I was in no way compensated for this post-PTI has no idea I am writing this and probably doesn't even know who I am. I'm just a crafty momma who likes to be organized.

Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-24827524524490856682015-02-25T09:02:00.002-08:002015-02-25T09:02:45.188-08:00hello thereI'm still alive. I haven't scrapbooked since last October and that makes me really sad. I spent some time this week organizing my craft room and putting together some pages kits. I've been reading some blogs again. I'm feeling the need to create again. To write again. To SHARE again.

Anyone else out there have to step away for a really long time to get perspective? How did you start back? I want to just jump back in but it feels so overwhelming.

Hoping to get at least one layout done this weekend. If that happens, I'll share it with you. If not, maybe I'll just share what's been inspiring me lately. :)

In fact, I'll start with this:

I just purchased this beautiful planner from Papertrey Ink. I can't wait for it to arrive. The colors, the set up. Everything about it just speaks to me and inspires me. And you all know how I love my planners. :)
I'll share some pics when it arrives.

What's been inspiring you lately?

Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-53749270168274066642014-10-15T10:10:00.001-07:002014-10-15T10:10:22.078-07:00the patch {a scrapbook layout}The weather is turning colder in Ohio. We've been in the full swing of football season for the past 6 weeks and Cross Country season just ended for the twins.
I'm pretty proud of the fact that I have already gotten my Halloween decorations up (they were up October 1st!), the boys costumes purchased, and candy bags ready to go. I even hit the Kroger's candy sale and got a decent amount of candy for our Trick or Treaters! Yay, organized me!
With all of this talk of Halloween, we are going to a local pumpkin patch this weekend. This will be our first year going to this patch-we made a quick visit this past weekend to make sure it wasn't too "country". We are going with our adult Sunday School class (that my husband teaches) so we wanted to make sure it had plenty of attractions but wasn't too big.
Super excited to spend some time with my family and our friends. Moose and Jackson are VERY excited about getting a pumpkin! The twins are just looking forward to shooting a "corn cannon" (I have no idea).
In honor of this weekend's outing, I thought I'd share a layout I did of our visit to a local pumpkin patch in 2012. (Last year was a difficult year, and we never did buy pumpkins-oops!)

Pretty simple layout using some leftover paper from a Close To My Heart page kit. I glitzed it up with the pumpkin bling sticker I got from Tj Maxx. (It's from Martha Stewart Crafts-I think I paid $1 for it?)

Super fun! happy Wednesday!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-72460221497022687542014-08-15T07:30:00.001-07:002014-08-15T07:30:49.864-07:00friday i'm in love...{good stuff}Sharing some things I love on this beautiful Friday.

The flavoring factory down the street is clearly making maple syrup flavoring-so the whole neighborhood smells like pancakes. Love.

Someone brought in donuts from Holtman's and I managed to get the one with apple filling. Love.

I found a website that sells amazing dresses that you can customize to fit your height, sleeve length, etc. And it is affordable. I just ordered my first dress from eShakti this morning, I am super excited to get it-I am on the short side and really hard to fit, so this is a HUGE find for me. LOVE.

Walgreen's prints Instagram photos and the quality is really, really good. I needed about 75 Instagrams printed (I know, I've been slacking on printing photos) and my usual printer for Instagram photos-PostalPix wanted $45 to print and ship. Ouch. Walgreen's did them in hour for $15! Same quality, more convenient, much more affordable. Walgreen's for the win. Love.

Have you seen the new Heidi Swapp Project Life kits? I may or may not have purchased the Foil and Overlay kits for a project I am working on this weekend. Love.

I am crafting this weekend. I haven't done that in a very long time. I am really excited about the project I am working on and can't wait to share it. Love.

Hope your Friday is full of things you love.

My oldest sons returned from a week at a church youth camp in Michigan on Saturday. Our whole family dynamic shifts when someone is gone. So glad to have the boys home. But could have done with our the three loads of stinky laundry they brought with them.

Tired and not happy with a photo but HOME!

2. I haven't created a scrapbook layout in 3 months. Yes, you read that right. 3 months. This makes me sad.

3. I have, however, decorated my planner. For years, I have used a paper planner to keep my life organized. I started using Franklin Covey planners just out of college. I switched to an Erin Condren Life Planner about 4 years ago. This past year I tried a Plum Paper planner (significantly less expensive and I was able to customize with my family's information). In the past few months, I've discovered planner groups on Facebook and the joys of decorating my planner. I'm not sure what this says about me.

Weekly Layout-each person has a "box"

Monthly Layout

4. It has been so unseasonably cool in Ohio that we have been in our pool exactly one time since coming back from Florida. I need some 90 degree weather.

5. I found out last week that I will be teaching first graders this fall in our church's Master Club program on Wednesday nights. I'm starting to work on my lesson plans and struggling to find resources. If anyone knows of some great websites-send them my way.

6. We have a garden in our back yard again this year. And the weird Ohio weather means our tomatoes are still green but we have TONS of hot peppers. No one in our family eats hot peppers. :/

From the Lakes Family Garden

7. After visiting Universal Studios & seeing the whole Harry Potter area, I finally broke down and watched the first two movies. I know. I must be the last person alive who hadn't seen them. And....I was underwhelmed. The scenery was pretty cool but I don't see what all the fuss was about. Sorry! {And I definitely don't see why people were willing to stand in line for EIGHT hours for the new Diagon Alley park while we were there-it opened the day before we went!}

8. I am currently obsessed with Orla Kiely make-up bags at Target. Because you can pretty much use them to organize ANYTHING. I have two of them in my bag-one for make-upy type stuff and another large one for other random stuff that I used constantly have to dig through my purse to find. Trying to resist the urge to buy a third for my work bag.

9. Did you know that Michael's stopped selling LePen pens? Ugh. After Archivers went out of business, Michael's was my only source for my favorite writing instrument. They have the Recollections brand that look like LePens, but they just aren't the same. Do you use LePen? Where do you get yours?

10. I still love my new job so very much. I have never felt so at peace with a decision. It completely changed my life in a good way. Happy Tuesday friends!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-42138541716635640362014-07-29T08:33:00.000-07:002014-07-29T08:33:03.035-07:00on my shelf... "i love you" {a scrapbook layout}well, hi there. apparently things have changed a bit in the world of scrapbooking. no more two peas. no more magazines. wow.
and yet for me, nothing has really changed. i'm still old school -- layers of paper and photos. i'm "classic" like that. let's call it vintage. ha ha.
i keep a layout on my shelf above my supplies that is my "current favorite" in a cute holder.
this is my current favorite.

why yes, i am still using kraft as my background paper all. the. time. and yes, i am framing my photos with layers of patterned paper (this time it's peebles family line-love these papers, GREAT for boys!)

looking at this makes me happy.

what have you been up to? :)

Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-77996208927900417672014-04-08T14:30:00.000-07:002014-04-08T14:30:00.116-07:00blog redesign means...I might just come back to this space and start writing again. :) I have loads of layouts waiting to be photographed and lots of posts written (in my head). Just need to schedule the time to type it all out and get it all uploaded.

So glad I walked away for awhile, it was desperately needed. I actually stayed away from all things scrapbooking (message boards, websites, stores, EVERYTHING) for about 3 months. I did stay updated on some of my scrappy friends via Instagram and Facebook but for the most part, I totally disconnected. I felt good.

I found that when I slowly started to returning to message boards and peeking at websites (still haven't returned to stores!), I could care less about the latest and greatest. Whew. And I decluttered and destashed a TON. I still feel like there is too much-thus the "no store" rule but I am getting to a much better place with simplifying. It feels good. I feel good.

I know my layouts will never earn me a spot on a design team, on a website or in a magazine (wait, do those even exist anymore?) but I love the community I formed with other women online.
Can't promise I will post 2-3 week like many of you - super women!-but I will post as often as I can. I'm okay with that-in fact, I won't feel guilty at all about that. I work full time and I'm raising four awesome young men. They get my time before anyone or anything else. But, I love writing, so when there is "me" time available, I'll spend it here. I feel good about that too.

So, there it is. Where I am right now. I feel like I am in a much better, happier place than I was last year. It feels good.

Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-64335547319320944112013-12-26T05:05:00.002-08:002013-12-26T05:05:50.597-08:00it's not goodbye....I can't say that I didn't try. :) But being a momma to 4 boys, holding down a full time job, maintaining two blogs and doing all the other random things I do, just isn't working for me anymore. I have to make some choices.

I love scrapbooking, cardmaking, and crafting. It's been a HUGE part of my life for the past 10 years. But I rarely get a chance to do it anymore. And when I do get the chance, I really don't want the pressure of staying "on trend" and photographing my layouts with the right lighting and all of that business. I just want to go back to scrapbooking the way I liked to scrapbook before I knew about the eleventy billion techniques and project life and insanely detailed die cuts.

I know I sound a little bitter, but I'm not. I really am not. I'm just a bit frustrated with myself for buying into the hype for so long. I'm really excited about getting back to doing what I love in 2014. I spent a couple of hours yesterday sketching out layouts and getting page kits planned. Looking forward to some scrappy time this weekend.

All that being said, I'm walking away from this blog. To be a crafting blogger, you really need to post more than once or twice a month and I can't make that commitment right now.

I'm focusing on my family blog over at Snakes, Snails & Puppy Dog Tails (who knows I might post a layout or two if the mood strikes me). I'll be posting there at least once a week-sometimes more if there's a lot going on. Just know that the focus is more on parenting/family life than crafting-and if that's not your thing, I totally understand.

I'm super grateful for the virtual friends this blog brought into my life-Monika, Katie, Becky, Julie-just to name a few. I'll still be visiting you ladies!

That's it for me-hope to see you over at my other blog- Snakes, Snails & Puppy Dog Tails.
Take care!
He used to love it. He'd grin and pose and make silly faces. Now that he is almost a teenager? Not so much. He rarely smiles and usually hides from the camera. Which is a bit frustrating for me, because I know someday he's going to regret not being in these photos.
So I couldn't resist poking a little fun at his constant serious demeanor when the camera is around...

Loving triangles and fun patterns right now. Everything with the exception of the cardstock is from Echo Park.
On a personal note, I might have some big career news to share with you guys shortly. I'm working on something-a new direction for me, still in marketing but that will hopefully bring my life in a better balance. Sometimes you need a little push to make a change and I feel like lately, I've been getting great big shoves. I should know more Monday-if you think of it, please been in prayer for me. (It's my last step in a LONG process...)

Have a great Thursday!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-72928397916033852432013-10-24T08:17:00.003-07:002013-10-24T08:17:59.761-07:00christina needs {fun stuff}I forgot to download the pictures I took of my layouts this weekend. Oops! So rather than go dark all week, I thought I'd post something fun instead.

Go to Google and type in your first name and the word "needs". Then make a list of the top ten links. Feel free to add your own commentary.

For me I typed "Christina Needs", these are the links I got: *
*I am not posting actual links because some of them may have questionable content...

1. Does She Need Help -- in reference to Christina Aguilera (sometimes, it seems like she does)

2. Needs A Makeover--also in reference to Ms Aguilera (Yes, yes she does)

3. Grey's Anatomy, What Christina Needs--(I no longer watch this show, for me it jumped the shark about two helicopter crashes and a train collision ago, but super excited to see someone besides Aguilera make the list!)

4. Help Staying Upright--in reference to, yes, you guessed it, Christina Aguilera (girl's got issues)

5. A New Stylist--in reference to Christina Hendricks (hey, a different Christina! And I totally disagree here-CH always looks amazing.)

6. Help Walking--oh, Aguilera (Get it together, girl.)

7. A Bag--Ms Aguilera (Really? She can't even walk...)

8. A bra--Aguilera, AGAIN (This seems personal to me.)

9. Nine Things She Needs to Stop Doing--Aguilera (Well, we have about 8 of them here, apparently.)

10. A Stylist--This time it's Aguilera that needs the stylist (and a bag, a bra, help staying upright, walking, jeesh...she does need HELP).

So what did I learn from this?
A-The internet has a LOT of advice for Christina Aguilera.
B-She's a hot mess.

Happy Thursday, friends! I'll be back next week with some scrapbooking fun. :)Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-31942355594852233792013-10-17T03:00:00.000-07:002013-10-17T03:00:00.691-07:00scrapbook generation super sketch club review {scrappy shopping}Way back in April, I signed up to get the Scrapbook Generation Super Sketch Club Kit monthly. I got about 3 months worth of kits before I cancelled my subscription. Not because I didn't like them but because I just didn't have time to really scrap.
I thought I'd do a little review of my kit from April. Buying the kit was super easy-I was able to pay with paypal, which I appreciated because I often fund my scrappy purchases with Ebay sales or online garage sales.
The kit arrived exactly when SG said it would and they sent me tracking info. The kit was packed perfectly with each layout in it's own bag. A sketch and instructions for each layout were included with each bag.
I'm a visual person, so I did print out the photos of the layouts from the website before I started scrapbooking from the kit. I think it might be helpful to have those in the kit but if it keeps costs down, it's not a big deal to print it out myself.
The instructions that came with the kit are very clear and easy to follow. Within 30 minutes of sitting down, I had a very cool, completely embellished 2 page layout done.

Yup, I used photos from WAY back in 2002. Wow. Look at my sweet little twin babies. Hard to believe they are Jr High heartbreakers now. (Let's not talk about my hair, mmmmkay?)
The layout sketch called for different size photos-I just made some adjustments to make mine work.
I have finished 2 of the 5 layouts included in the kit. Of the 2 layouts I finished, I had enough leftover patterned paper to make about 5 cards (using cardstock and embellies from my stash).
I joined the club just as my professional life got super overwhelming and I had little to no time to scrap. So the kits piled up-unloved and unused.
That being said, I would recommend this kit to someone who loves using sketches and wants to try newer lines. It seemed like every kit I got had a ton of newer product with GREAT sketches.
I really like this kit club and I will definitely be signing back up next year. I'm on a spending free for the remainder of 2013-trying to see if I can get through 4 months of crafting without buying anything but adhesive before I let myself buy something new!
Hope this helps someone else who has been thinking about Scrapbook Generation as a kit club option.

***I was not compensated in any way for this review-all the opinions and thoughts are my own.***Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-73039521309115760352013-10-14T11:58:00.000-07:002013-10-14T11:58:12.812-07:00a visit with great granny lakes {a scrapbook layout}I don't get to use pink very often. I don't really have that much of it in my stash. But I do have a few pieces of patterned paper and alphabets here and there.
It's a hard color for me to use. I don't have a lot of photos or situations that really work with it, but I challenged myself last week to try.
(Side note-I've been challenging myself to do a lot of things lately-I've been in a serious rut-time to shake things up!)

This is what I came up with:

Yeah, not a ton of pink but I gave it a shot. :)
This layout is about a visit with my husband's grandmother-who turned 81 years young this May. She's a pretty amazing lady. Raised 8 children on a farm in Eastern KY (where she still lives). She's sweet but tough and cans the best green beans you will ever eat in your entire life.
We love when she's here in Ohio for a visit-she tells stories about my husband's antics as a boy and about my father in law as a child. The kids love hearing about the two toughest guys they know falling off horses and being scared of sheep. :)
We love Granny Lakes, I just wish we could see her a little more often.
Happy Monday!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-62849146506508062402013-10-09T12:24:00.000-07:002013-10-09T12:24:36.760-07:00bbc family fun night {a scrapbook layout}Not sure that I have posted about this too much but last May we switched our church membership to a congregation closer to our home. We'd been driving 30 minutes one way to services. Yikes. Our new church home is about 7 minutes away. LOVE it.
We also love the people, the fellowship. Love that the boys attend a youth group with kids from their school. It's been a huge blessing to us.
We are pretty active there-the husband is a deacon and I teach a Master Club class on Wednesday nights. But more than that, we love to be involved with the activities.
Like the always fun, BBC Family Fun night-we have one in two weeks at a local campground with a big bonfire and hayride-I can't wait.
This layout is from a summer fun night-ice cream, games and a bouncy house.
Too much fun!

How much do I love those Thickers???

I used the bottom of a patterned paper to make my arrow strip-because I'm thrifty like that. :)

I'm pretty sure this is my favorite color combination ever. I really want a whole outfit based on these colors.
What's your favorite color combo for scrapbooking these days?Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-45991185006482492692013-09-26T11:27:00.000-07:002013-09-26T11:27:38.694-07:00joe nuxhall miracle field {a scrapbook layout}There's a baseball legend that grew up right here in our little hometown of Fairfield. He was a Hall of Fame pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, one of the youngest men to ever play the sport. He later went on to become a beloved baseball announcer but he never forgot his roots. Joe Nuxhall gave so much back to Fairfield, not only money but time and energy. His sons still live in our area and still help out with our schools. Not long after he died, an organization was formed to help our city build the Joe Nuxhall Miracle Field .

This isn't your ordinary baseball field. It's a place where children with special needs and physical limitations can play baseball with little to no assistance. In a word, it's AMAZING.

As a mom of four healthy, active boys, it was humbling to stand on that field. As I watched them running and playing, I was so very thankful for the many blessings we've been given. I am so proud of my "adopted" hometown-and this very cool place.

Clearly, I can answer yes to both of those questions. To say that life has been a little crazy would be a huge understatement.
I took a new role at work in March of this year (right about the time I started disappearing from this blog). Within a month of my joining, the team of 4 people went to just one-ME. I've essentially been doing the work of 3 people all summer long. I'm not complaining or whining. Just stating facts. I've had some time to think lately-got some news at work that made me really think about how I was spending my time. Let's just say I won't be working through lunch anymore and that my kids will no longer be competing with my laptop for my attention on the weekends.
And I'll be back to posting at least once or twice a week here. I have lots of layouts to share. :)
I mentioned before that sometimes you see a photo and all you can think is "I have to scrapbook that". That was the case with this picture.

It's a photo of one of my oldest sons teaching my youngest son how to dribble a basketball and you can see their shadows in the background of the photo.

I immediately had the title in mind and got to work.

The journaling is all about how Brody is learning so much about growing up in the shadows of his older brothers and how the 3 of them are such great examples to him.
I kept everything about the layout really simple to focus on the story and pictures.
Love that chevron paper. I used it on a few different layouts. I was totally bummed when I ran out of it!
Happy Monday blogger friends!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-75073751224820164952013-06-28T08:41:00.000-07:002013-07-16T12:48:37.287-07:00our summer in a layout {a scrapbook layout}I know, it's not Monday, but better late than never, right?
Last summer, we had so much fun-much of it in our own backyard! I don't really want to do 15 layouts about bike riding and our bouncy house, so how do I capture that in one layout?
Thanks to my PhotoSheet program, I created a series of 2x3 photos highlighting some of the fun we had. I took Simple Stories Summer Fresh line and went to work.

I used some of the word/phrase stickers to create a banner.

And the letter stickers from the kit to create a title.

A whole summer of bike riding and backyard fun in one double layout. I think the kraft cardstock really helps tie it together.
We're taking the boys to Kings Island amusement park this weekend and I'm hoping to get some scrapping time in on Sunday afternoon.
Have a great weekend! Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-6127719668863076842013-06-20T03:33:00.000-07:002013-07-16T12:48:54.418-07:00a scrapbook layout in less than 10 minutes...you are my sunshine {a scrapbook layout}How do you create a layout in less than 10 minutes? Let me explain...
Despite my serious and well documented Thickers addiction, sometimes I just don't want to spell a title out. I really love the Simple Stories 4x6 cards for just this reason. So many of them can be used for titles-they are super versatile and don't need a lot of work to make them look good.
For today's layout, I simply cut it out from the sheet (it was on a 12x12 sheet with 5 other 4x6 cards) and rounded the corners. Boom. I had my layout title.
Since I am using a collection kit, I just added 2 strips of patterned paper with contrasting patterns and overlay on my photo and this layout was literally done in minutes.
Clean, simple and fast. I'll be back Monday with a layout that wraps up a whole summer of fun in a double layout.

I'm back from vacation -we headed down to Santa Rosa Beach again this year, love that place-and I'm feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the world again. I have a ton of scrapbooking to catch up on (1 1/2 Scrapbook Generation kits and another that will ship next week-yikes!) but I'm not stressing. Maybe because I can still sort of hear the ocean waves crashing in my head. LOL.
So, I have to share a funny story about our trip. As we were packing to leave I checked and re-checked all the drawers in the kids rooms to be sure they didn't leave ANYTHING behind in Florida. Unfortunately, I wasn't nearly as diligent in my own room. As we were driving back, I begin to get a sinking sensation that I might have left behind my favorite black dress. "Did you happen to throw my black dress in your bag?" I asked the husband. Nope. The closer we got to Ohio, the more items I begin to think of that I didn't remember packing. In the end, I left behind a whole DRAWER full of clothes in the beach house we rented in Florida! The woman who owns the house was kind enough to FedEx them to me (lucky clothes got to spend an extra week on the beach!). BTW, the house we stayed in was AMAZING, private pool, 3 bedrooms, a Wii for the kiddos, and super nice owners-if you want the details, please send me a note and I will get you the owner's info.
Anyway, back to scrapping, the Moose actually enjoyed the beach this year and cracked us up with his ability to make friends everywhere we went. He's not a shy one. :)
His outgoing personality inspired this layout.

He always introduces himself as "Brody Moose". Ha ha. Love that kid.
Happy Tuesday!
I have met some of the nicest people through this hobby!
Today I have a double page layout to share. I used my very favorite scissors, Cutterbee scissors, to fussy cut the sun and kite for this one. I use the yellow and black handled Cutterbee scissors, the ones that have the teflon coating. They are super sharp and nothing, I mean nothing sticks to them. Love them for intricate cuts.

I'm still using the Simple Stories kit-I got a lot of mileage out of this kit. I used Simple Stories Sn@p alphabet stickers for the title and some WRMK twine for the kite.
I cut the sun from one the 4x6 cards that came with the kit:

I added some pop dots to give it some dimension and have it "pop" off the page.

The kite was a bit more challenging. It was on one of the patterned papers. I cut the tail off and looped some twine around the pop dot I used to adhere it to the layout. Then I used other colors of twine for the bows in the tail.

Forgot to add that I used Swiss Dot Bazzill cardstock as the base. Fun stuff.

I'm super excited because I just got the shipping notice from Scrapbook Generation that my first Super Saver Sketch Club Kit is on it's way. I can't wait to play with it this weekend!! I'll post photos here on the blog once I get it.

I finished working with a Simple Stories kit that I'd been hoarding for a bit. So all the layouts you'll see this week will feature that line.
This one is a one pager, with one 4x6 photo. All the materials are from Simple Stories, except the letter stickers and heart stickers-those are from Jillibean Soup.

Super happy with how this turned out. This one is currently on display in my craft room.

Just looking at this makes me happy.
Happy Monday friends!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-84476831199157798892013-04-15T02:00:00.000-07:002013-07-16T12:50:40.275-07:00jillibean soup warehouse box 2013 {scrappy shopping}It's that time of year again, where many manufacturers put together warehouse or mystery boxes for fans to purchase at a low price. If you really love a particular collection, you can grab a steal with these boxes.
In the past I have purchased:
-Pink Paislee
-Sassafrass (my all time favorite!)
-Bella Blvd
-Jillibean Soup

I actually had a reminder on my calendar for the Bella sale (if it's on the same schedule as last year it should be happening in the next few weeks!) Anywho, that made me look up Jillibean, whose box was wonderful last year. Low and behold, they had held a warehouse sale just 2 hours from my house at the end of March. And I missed it. BUT they still had the box for sale on their retail site! Yay. The boxes were $25 and my shipping-USPS Priority- was $6.60, I also had to pay tax because I live in Ohio where Jillibean is located.

I got my box on Friday-2 days after I ordered it. I am thrilled with the contents!

I haven't had a chance to go through and see how many duplicates there are from last year but I don't think there are very many. Maybe 5-6 sheets of paper, but that's okay-I do a lot of double layouts!
And all of the extras-alphas, buttons, stickers are different-YAY!

So what was in the box??

Buttons, bean stalks, felts blossoms, bean blossoms, and epoxy buttons.

Three sets of alphabets (one cardstock).

One corrugated alpha in brown (love these) and two sheets of cardstock stickers-sweet & sour soup and watermelon gazpacho soup.

Two soup labels, two packs of journaling sprouts, and a butterfly corrugated mini-album.

So I watched craigslist for months, just waiting for my perfect shelving unit at the perfect price to appear.
And then last year, just before Christmas {as if it were a present, just for me}, the listing appeared. My Expedit unit for just $50. Oh boy. I couldn't call fast enough. After borrowing a truck and sweet-talking my husband into dis-assembling it to carry down to the basement, and re-assembling it, it was mine! And it was perfect!
All of my Thickers are now stored in these document boxes from JoAnn's-they fit perfect!
A big giant, unable to move around or do anything in it, mess. I finally decided to something about it a couple of weeks ago. I took all of my patterned paper and cardstock out and reorganized it into closed containers. Ah. So much nicer. Only problem was every time I tried to get paper out it was a NIGHTMARE.
So last week, I decided to re-reorganize all of paper vertically. But while I was doing it, I realized I had an enormous amount of cardstock. Like enough cardstock to open my own store. So I ruthlessly boxed a giant stash of it and listed it for sale over on Two Peas. It felt really good to only have the colors I'll actually use on hand. I should probably do the dame thing with my patterned paper!
I also came up with a brilliant idea for storing all of my Thickers. (My 100+ collection of Thickers.) I'll share that tomorrow, along with photos of the newly organized scrap room.
All that being said-I can actually work in there now.
I think I've used this sketch about 30 times in the past couple of months but I just love the clean and simple look.

You can't really tell but the title is pop-dotted up for dimension and I've added the name our church with smaller alphabet stickers.

I love this little cluster of brads with the journal card from Elle's Studio.
I'll be back tomorrow with photos of my space and my new Thickers storage!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-74777494190734367902013-03-07T10:08:00.001-08:002013-03-07T10:08:21.048-08:00awana grand prix {a scrapbook layout}Thanks for all the nice comments on my last post. So glad I'm not the only one that gets a little overwhelmed sometimes.
I have a quick layout to share with you today.
One of the last events we attended at our old church was the AWANA Grand Prix. An all day event for kids to race pinewood derby cars that they build with their parents. Two of our boys elected to participate (Bryce decided he was too old.)
It was a fun day-lots of laughter and time spent with good friends but it was also pretty bittersweet, knowing that we likely wouldn't be spending much time with most of these kids going forward.

I've been hoarding that Mind's Eye patterned paper for awhile, just waiting for the right subject. :)
Happy Thursday!Christinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08051697213539853377noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5308660799175570787.post-48896004693192852022013-02-28T07:51:00.002-08:002013-02-28T07:51:40.483-08:00i'm alive {an update}I'm alive. I promise. Just feeling a little overwhelmed lately. Basketball for two boys. Indoor lacrosse for another. Applying for a new job (getting the new job-same company-new role/brand). Teaching Master Club on Wednesdays at church. Being a wife and mother. Working full time.
It all just got to be a little much. So I stepped back from some things. Blogging, scrapbooking, social media. I just needed a little break. I'm slowly getting back in the flow. Re-organized my craft room. I'm beginning to feel creative again.
I've decided not to worry about how far behind I am on Project Life. I've kept up with my Oh Life entries, so I can always go back and catch up if I feel the need. Right now, though, I want to create. Some layouts. Some mini albums. Some cards. I want to cut patterned paper, figure out where to place my photos and journaling, and CREATE.
Life is good.
What have you been up to?
Be back soon. I promise not to be gone so long this time.
